One of the main indicators of social mobility in Brazil is the household ownership. Yet there are few quantitative studies that deal with this issue. Based on 2000 Census data, the objective of this paper is to project the demand by habitation in metropolitan regions of Brazil. The methodology combines headship rates method, age-period-cohorts models, and estimates of the habitation deficit, by habitation quality, sex, and age.
