Multiple causes of death related to HIV/AIDS in two Brazilian cities: São Paulo and Santos, 2001

OBJECTIVES: This paper aims to investigate mortality related to HIV/AIDS in two Brazilian cities located in São Paulo state, Brazil in 2001, from a multiple causes of death perspective. All death causes mentioned in the death certificates of those who died from HIV/AIDS were considered in order to create profiles of death causes groups. METHODS: The data are obtained from DATASUS, Health Ministry, Mortality Information System. Causes of death were coded according to the Tenth Revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems. All deaths related to HIV/AIDS are used to create profiles of death causes. Fuzzy multivariate technique, Grade of Membership, GoM is used to create profiles of causes of death. PRELIMINARY RESULTS: 26 variables of groups of causes of death were created in order to create profiles of death causes related to HIV/AIDS.
